To honor the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the college joined Aggie Source and other entities from across the university to host community service events on and around campus.

At the University Farm’s student and community farm, volunteers cleaned garden beds, harvested vegetables and removed weeds to prepare for fall planting, while students at Aggie Source Food Pantry rebuilt garden beds to prepare for new produce to be grown for students on campus as part of their Nourish the Block initiative.

College students also participated in events at food pantries and gardens at Bennett College and UNC-Greensboro.

Skye Reyes picked a few flowers to put in her hair while joining other students for service work at the Student & Community Farm to commemorate 9/11, 2001.

“I’m very important that volunteers came out today because it shows the community base that we have on campus, and that we have students want to volunteer, want to learn, see a difference in their community and earn volunteer hours,” said Aggie Source project manager Micaiah Gordine.

According to Aggie Source coordinator Sherelle Wofford, approximately 130 N.C. A&T students volunteered at the events across campus, and at Bennett College and UNCG.

On Sept 11, 2001, 9/11, four terrorist-hijacked airplanes struck landmarks around the country, including the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., killing nearly 3,000 people. A fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa., after passengers and crew fought back against the hijackers.
