MERRY MONDAY

Monday is being made merry this season, as CAES Interim Dean Shirley Hymon-Parker hosts her annual holiday reception. The fete is scheduled from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the student lounge area of Webb Hall.

Refreshments will be served. Music will be played. Spirits are expected to be festive. All CAES faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the floating reception to celebrate the successes of the semester and fellowship with one another.

Kevin Barnes ’82: ‘A&T was a huge choice for me’

Growing up on a tobacco farm in Wilson County, all Kevin Barnes wanted to do was leave. “We lived out in the country, on a farm, and my father seriously believed in hard work,” Barnes said. “We farmed tobacco, corn, soybeans, hogs, cucumbers – a little of everything. It taught me to find something else to do. I wanted to get out.”

As one of campus’s largest colleges, with a wide array of majors from animal science to horticulture to fashion merchandising, it’s not surprising that it takes more than one building to hold the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. And since the college puts the “A” in A&T, having CAES students spread out around campus may seem like a good idea.
