Porche Spence, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design, has been appointed by Gov. Josh Stein to the N.C Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

The Soil and Water Conservation Commission adopts rules for developing and implementing a soil and water conservation program. It also approves petitions for soil conservation districts and applications for watershed plans and adopts rules consistent with the provisions.

The commission has seven members, all of which are appointed by the governor.

Spence said that she is honored to be appointed.

“This is an opportunity to bring my experiences and expertise to local leaders and communities across the state, helping to shape policies that will ensure the conservation of our natural resources, water quality and land stewardship,” she said.
