Student and Community Farm grows healthy engagement

The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences’ latest farming adventure isn’t just for researchers and established farmers or ranchers. At the Student and Community Farm, students can experience many types of agriculture and members of the community can have a safe place to grow food – and enjoy each others’ company. This joint project shares staff and faculty from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design and Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T and is part of the 492-acre University Farm.

The presidents and chancellors of the nation’s 1890 Universities are celebrating the 130th anniversary of the federal legislation that designated them as land-grant institutions. The Morrill Act of 1890 established a land-grant university system of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in states where African Americans were banned from accessing a public higher education.

WANG ON BIOFUELS RESEARCH TEAM

Dr. Lijun Wang, professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, is part of a University of North Carolina system research team that recently snagged a $2 million grant to convert animal and food waste into carbon-neutral gasoline. Awarded by the UNC System’s Research Opportunities Initiative (ROI), the project will vet technology that uses solar energy to convert biogas to gasoline.
