Twenty-three incoming freshmen from across North Carolina and the Southeast have joined the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as CAES 1890 Agricultural Scholars this fall. The CAES 1890 Agricultural Scholars Program, in its first year, provides full tuition, books and software, room and board for up to four years for students pursuing careers in the agricultural sciences.

As one of campus’s largest colleges, with a wide array of majors from animal science to horticulture to fashion merchandising, it’s not surprising that it takes more than one building to hold the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. And since the college puts the “A” in A&T, having CAES students spread out around campus may seem like a good idea.

Professors Guochen Yang and Sanjun Gu’s work to make ginger a profitable, predictable crop choice for North Carolina farmers was recently highlighted in the News & Record newspaper in the article “Spicing Up Farming.”
