DR. ANTOINE J. ALSTON COMPLETES PRESTIGIOUS PROGRAM

Dr. Antoine J. Alston, CAES associate dean for Academic Studies,  graduated from the Food Systems Leadership Institute (FSLI) in November. The program offers leadership development to upper-level leaders in higher education, government and industry. Alston has taught, advised and mentored countless students in his teaching and administrative career. Through the FSLI, he proved that he also is a life-long learner.

The program provides fellows with strategies to handle leadership challenges and opportunities for the future. Alston was a member of the FSLI’s cohort 11 and participated in the program from 2015-2017. He was presented with a special acknowledgement at the annual meeting of the Association for Public and Land-Grant Universities held in Washington.

Williams Dining Hall, operated by Sodexo, celebrated Earth Day on April 22 with a lunch menu that featured ingredients grown by the CAES. The ingredients grown by Aggies included basil, oregano, red Russian kale, broccoli, cinnamon basil, sweet potatoes and ginger grown at the Urban Food Platform, Reid Greenhouse and the Student and Community Farm.

Bailey Rayford ’99: ‘A&T prepared me to be able to do anything’

Bailey Rayford ’99 has deep roots in North Carolina agriculture. A fourth-generation farmer, she and her two brothers, Sean and RayMond Turner, own and operate T&T Farms in Iredell County, an ornamental nursery that supports their commercial landscaping company and a logistics company. Around 400 acres, some of the land has been in the family since 1904.
