Day of Service Brings Aggies to the University Farm

September 19, 2025

A group of people are gardening outdoors on a sunny day, smiling and tending to a flowering bush. Some are kneeling to work with the flowers, while others stand, wearing casual clothes and gloves.

Solomon Hayes-Brown jokingly offers a freshly-cut zinnia, albeit slightly past its prime, to Kayden Skeete at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Student Community Farm as they participated in the Aggie Day of Service September 6, 2025.

Miss and Mister North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University — Mariah Couch and Miles Norwood — and the university’s Royal Court joined volunteers from the Aggie Source food pantry and the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement at the A&T Student Community Farm on Sept. 5.

The volunteers cleaned up flower and produce beds as part of the fifth annual Aggies Day of Service, which aims to serve, uplift, and make a difference in our community.

“I think a lot of times people forget the “A” in N.C. A&T.” Norwood said. “Agriculture is a very big aspect of North Carolina A&T, so for us to be able to come out and serve today is very important, not just to me and Mariah, but to the school as a whole.”

Volunteers also helped at other community locations, including assisting Greensboro Beautiful with picking up trash and distributing flyers announcing the university’s “Cross the Street: Tutorial Program,” which assists youths in nearby neighborhoods.
