Farm Invites Legislators, Partners To Get Hands Dirty

Legislators and the group gather to hear Omon Isikhuemehen, Ph.D., explain his research on growing truffles on lobolly pine trees.

The N.C. A&T University Farm hosted a group of N.C. legislators and visitors from the N.C. Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services, N.C. Farm Bureau, N.C. State University and others to experience the CAES’s truffle, ginger and high-tunnel produce research firsthand – by getting dirty.

Guochen Yang, Ph.D. explains his ginger research to Reps. Kamika Brown, who represents Forsyth County, and Ray Jeffers, who represents Person and Durham Counties.

That’s the pitstop at the Speedway to Healthy exhibit that Pablo, a student at Southwest Elementary School in Guilford County, enjoyed the most. “We were sorting foods (according to what’s healthy),” he said. “It was fun.”
