When the University of North Carolina Board of Governors meets at N.C. A&T on Jan. 30, the CAES will be in the spotlight.

A&T undergraduate researchers, including two CAES students, will share their poster presentations with the board. CAES students La’Neesa Holmes-Cobb and Courtney Richard won first and second place, respectively, for their poster presentations at the university’s Undergraduate Research Symposium in October.

Holmes-Cobb, a senior majoring in Laboratory Animal Science, will present “Comparison of Immunoglobulin M and Degranulated Neutrophil Levels in the Serum and Lung Lavage of Indoor and Outdoor Reared Pigs.” Dr. Jenora Waterman, associate professor in the Department of Animal Science, mentored Holmes-Cobb.

Courtney Richard, a junior majoring in Food and Nutritional Sciences, will present “Developing an Optimal Condition for Brewing Onion Peel Tea Using Response Surface Methodology.” Dr. Hye Won Kang, assistant research professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, mentored Richard, who is a participant in the CAES Undergraduate Research Scholars Program.

That won’t be the Board of Governors’ only exposure to CAES excellence. New board members will tour the A&T campus, including the University Farm which is administered under the CAES. At 492 acres, the farm is dubbed the university’s largest classroom.
