Students Take a Tour of Benbow Park Creek

The landscape architecture program’s senior studio walked the length of the Benbow Park creek recently as part of their work with the neighborhood to create a new master plan for the park.  It was a transformative experience for most of the students, according to Steve Cancian, professor for the seniors.

“Before the creek walk, many students saw the creek as dirty, possibly dangerous and full of potentially harmful bugs and critters.  After the creek walk, all the students saw it as a refreshing escape from the city and a wonderous place with unusual plants, beautiful spider webs and curious fish that swim between your legs.  Now when they see any urban creek, they will wonder, "who lives in there?" and maybe even explore to find out.
