Kathleen Liang, Ph.D. shares avian flu knowledge on National Public Radio

Kathleen Liang, Ph.D.

Kathleen Liang, Ph.D. appeared in a National Public Radio feature on the recent outbreak of avian flu and its effects on poultry prices. With Yewanda Fasina, Ph.D., Liang is co-principal investigator on a USDA National Institutes of Food and Agriculture grant to study ways to prevent disease outbreaks in commercial poultry.

New Farmers of America book has May 2 release

“The Legacy of The New Farmers of America,” a historical narrative and pictorial history of the 1800s-1965 organization for Black youth written by Antoine Alston, Ph.D. and Netta S. Cox of A&T’s Bluford Library, will be released on May 2 by Arcadia Publishing.

A&T’s Bluford Library has what’s possibly the largest collection of NFA memorabilia anywhere in the world.  The (Greensboro) News & Record profiled the project in a recent story.

The book is also available through Barnes and Noble and Target.

CAES students illustrate A&T’s top HBCU ranking on Spectrum News

Animal sciences students Milosh McAdoo and Tahirah Jones appeared on Spectrum 1 as part of a story the network ran on N.C. A&T’s ranking as a top 5 HBCU by national college ranking and review aggregator College Consensus. The two explained their reasons for choosing a historically Black college and university in the March story, which ran locally on cable channels 1 and 13.

Fashion merchandising professor, student in industry publication

Fashion merchandising professor Devona Dixon and her student Jewel Moser were interviewed by industry publication Fashionista during their March trip to New York, visiting fashion sites on the tour funded through the ICON 360 grant the department was awarded last year. She and Jewel are quoted in the Education Connection portion of the article The Rise of Diversity-led Scholarships in Fashion.

Lactation certificate program highlighted on Spectrum News broadcast

Family and Consumer Science’s lactation certificate program was featured in a Spectrum News broadcast this month. Student Sierra Bizzell, who will graduate this spring as part of the program’s second class, worked with patients in the program’s new clinic in the Cone Health Women’s MedCenter and in the program’s simulation lab in Benbow Hall to explain the significance of the program’s focus on helping mothers and babies of color with lactation.

CAES hemp program highlighted as leader in USDA hemp program

The CAES hemp program has been highlighted by USDA/NIFA in their Daily Digest Bulletin newsletter as a leader in the national hemp program! Great recognition of the college on the national stage.
